The Ladon

This hat is a small Nevernois cut hat trimmed with silk ribbon from Mokuba. The shape and style was inspired from a print from 1763 from D'Angelo's Ecole des Armes. The cock of the hat is half bi-tri cornered laced wide with silver thread. There is no cockade to the hat, instead a small silver lace and button near the rim is the only ornamentation. This is a very small hat characteristic of the styles that grew in popularity in the 1770's and 80's.

The Nyenhuis

Made by commission for Mr. Nyenhuis, this is a true cut bi-corne Nevernois. It is a very small hat trimmed in gold lace from Mokuba and ornamented with a large satin cockade. The button on the cockade is a gold thread "death's head" button made by Nancy Watt.

The Luscombe

Made by commission for Mr. Luscombe, this is a medium cut bi-corne for the true country gentleman. This hat comes trimmed in faux moiré silk with an authentic moiré silk cockade and plain silver lace trim.

The Brackley

Made by commission for Mr. Brackley, this is a larger true cut bi-corne, trimmed in black silk and a sprinkle of gold lace. Overall, it's a good plain hat with a rather fancy cast button.

KRRNY 2nd Batt. Officer's cap

NOTE: the elastic bands are still on to form the horse hair plume and not part of the hat design!

This hat was made for Lieutenant Jeff Paine KRRNY 2nd Batt. The cap is identical to the officer's cap of the 1st Batt. but trimmed in gold instead of silver. As with all officers of the Northern Brigade, the hat sports the silver Britannia inspired by the fad created by the contemporary 9th of foot regiment stationed in Quebec.

The Doedens

The Doedens is a Stubbs inspiration made for friend and former Light Coy. serjeant, Chris Doedens. Chris portrays a solid John Bull lower middle class yeoman. I thought it fitting that the classic outdoorsy hats depicted in Stubbs famous hunting paintings would suit his style well.

In my search for images I came across this hat often than expected especially it seems for the year 1777.

The hat is a round blocked wool felt with wool tape and silk ribbon trim.

The Beau Carlisle

Here's a fashionable little number I did up for myself. You see this style crop up all through the late middle century.

Originally inspired by a print entitled the "Carlisle Room" I borrowed heavily from Gavin Hamilton's 1776 painting of a British officer and Daniel Cooper's painting of a young hunter. the style seems to be part of the "country fad" that hits in the 70s and 80s.

It's a fur felt blank trimmed in wool with silk ribbon finishing.

Child's blue bonnet

This is my first attempt at a woman's bonnet. With the help of Nancy Watt, I decided to try my hand on a blue silk bonnet for a child. The outside is done in blue peau de soie silk, the inside cream-white china silk. It is trimmed in blue ribbon ruching.

I will soon be offering bonnets as soon as I've completed two more test projects, another childs bonnet and an adult bonnet. Watch this space for updates.
