The Oboe Lesson

Anon

...It is not that she has no talent for the Instrument, I own, she is quite Gifted in its use. She holds the utmost enthusiasm in her Performance, and creativity in her Interpretation. She is as fond of tying together whole notes as she is of running eighths. She is, however, a bit impatient counting the Measures of whole rests. I wager this is because she so enjoys the active Application of her Knowledge. Her Rhythm is quite remarkable and improves continually with each Movement through the piece. Sink me, by the Deuce, if I can coax a high A from her, let alone a high C. She is resolved that Low A is as high as she may go with ease. I suggested that with frequent practice up and down the scales, greater ease may Unfold. Alas, she is adamant. She assures me in the most sincere manner that she does not oppose the outcome, she merely finds the proposed Technique rather Curious. She ponders my fascination for odd time signatures, and muses my proclivity for advocating them. At times I question but that we are on the same page. She is comfortable with her familiarity of 4/4 time, but she is becoming ever so fond of 3/4. Such is she a Lover of her Diversion, she seems not to mind that I hear scarcely a Note from her. Alas, she has such a wonderous Tone. She perhaps is concerned of disturbing the neighbours. I own by every other Indication she finds me a skilled and knowledgeable instructor and says that as long as I am satisfied by the manner in which she ends the exercise, her Thyrste is thus Quenched..
