Lady Evelynn

Of all the ladies who graced Quebec that fine summer evening, none could charm like the mysterious lady Evelynn. She was a new face and rumoured to be a very rich widow. Although men threw themselves in her path, there was something devilishly familiar about Lady Evelynn.

As the evening wore on, strange rumours began to circulate around the town regarding Lady Evelynn's mysterious past. A friend of the animated Mrs. McAnulty, she was the star of the evening but finally, after charming the heart of many young gentlemen, Lady Evelyn's character was brought to the question, at which point she disappeared, never to be seen again.

Once again, only one rendering could be found of Lady Evelynn. Here, she gazes coquettishly at some swain, in Mrs. McAnulty's famous reproduction of late 1780's green and yellow woolen country gown with vandyke collar. Her chapeau is banded with black silk and silver buckle and black ostrich plumes sweep forward across the crown.
