Sir Barlow Clemente

Sir Barlow Clémente, 1st Lord of Rochester, the infamous prodigal son of the great Hugenot, Clémente family. After his grand tour of the continent, Sir Barlow returned a follower of the macaroni and one to rival the great Charles James Fox himself. From the Beefsteak Club, he is transported upon his luxurious sedan chair, a creation his alter ego, Justin Clement, built himself. In fact, the talented young Justin not only built the sedan chair but tailored all his own clothing (the embroidery was accomplished by a young seamstress of his acquaintance, in return for many of his favours, it is said) from the peach and silver waistcoat, to the striped embroidered coat and even the shoes. Such talent marks a true man of style from his pigtail to his nosegay. All the town talked about young Rochester as he made his way from the gambling table to the promenade and back to the bowl of punch. |
